In a major shake-up of the Western League,
Bedminster, Clifton, St. Paul’s and
Staple Hill were moved to the new Amateur
Division 1, with Eastleigh, Reading and Swindon
Town joining the other five top flight clubs
in a ‘Professional Section’. Three of these five changed their
names. Bristol South End became ‘Bristol
City’, Eastville Rovers became ‘Bristol
Eastville Rovers’ (some sources say
this change took place 12 months later) and
St. George became ‘Bristol St. George’
