MIDLAND LEAGUE 1890-1900
Midland League Final Table 1890-1891
The season began with 12 clubs in the competition,
but Kidderminster resigned during the season
and Warwick County were expelled for failing
to fulfil fixtures. The records of both clubs were deleted.

Lincoln City and Sheffield United left the
competition at the end of the season. Derby Midland amalgamated with Football
league side Derby County. Five new
clubs were admitted – Doncaster Rovers,
Grantham Rovers, Leicester Fosse, Loughborough
Town and Wednesbury Old Athletic.

Once again there was a mid-season resignation. This time the club was Staveley, whose
record was deleted.

Burton Wanderers and Leicester Fosse were
both elected to the Football League Division
2 and so resigned from the Midland League,
while the two Mansfield clubs amalgamated
as ‘Mansfield’. Derby County Reserves, Heanor Town,
Ilkeston Town, Matlock, Rushden Town and
Stoke Swifts, believed to have been the ‘Reserve
XI’ of the Football League club Stoke,
were elected.

Midland League, as did Derby County Reserves
and Stoke Swifts. Four new clubs were elected - Barnsley
St. Peter’s, Dresden United, Walsall
(from the Football League) and Wellingborough.

Chesterfield became the latest Midland League
side to be elected to the Football League
Division 2. Other departures were Long Eaton Rangers,
Mexborough Town, Sheffield United and Sheffield
Wednesday, all of whom resigned. 4
clubs joined – Barnsley Reserves, Lincoln
City Reserves, Newark and Northampton.
